Cllr Kendall calls for light switch off delay

Lib Dem County Councillor David Kendall has called on Essex County Council to delay the introduction of "Part Night Lighting" in Brentwood to allow Councillors and local residents more time to consider key areas across the Borough where the lights should remain ON. At present "Part Night Lighting" is due to be introduced in February 2014 but the actual date in February has yet to be confirmed. David Kendall has made the call after finally being told that the maps showing where the County Council intend to keep the lights ON in Brentwood won't be available until 24th January 2014 which is potentially days before the big switch off. He said: "Councillors and residents need to know where the County Council intend to definitely keep the lights ON in Brentwood between 12am and 5am before they can give a detailed response to what is being proposed. The fact that we aren't going to get this information until the 24th January - potentailly days before the big switch off - makes a mockery of the whole consultation pro

Lib Dem councillors slam changes to children's centres

Brentwood County Councillors David Kendall and Barry Aspinell have slammed the proposed changes Tory controlled Essex County Council plan to make to the Childrens Centres operating in the Borough and across Essex. The changes in Brentwood are as follows: The Ark Children's Centre based at Becket Keys School in Sawyers Hall Lane will be closed and it will merge with the Larchwood Gardens Children's Centre in Pilgrims Hatch. The County may continue to provide services from the outreach sites to meet local need to minimise the effects of closing the childrens centre but this still has to be decided. Cherry Tree Children's Centre in Knights Way will see it's operating hours cut from 40 hours down to 15 hours and the telephone service which was 10 hours will be stopped completely. Sunshine Children's Centre which is based in Shenfield Library will see it's operating hours cut from 40 hours down to 5 hours and the telephone service which was 10 hours will be stopped completely. Essex Youth Services Under Threat

The announcement that there is going to be a consultation on Youth Service Provision across Essex by Tory controlled Essex County Council after all the major cutbacks in youth services in recent years is a cause for serious concern says Lib Dem County Councillor David Kendall. Cllr Kendall, who sits as a member on the Brentwood Youth Partnership, is only to aware of the serious cuts that our local youth service has had to endure over the last few years and is fearful that this consultation could lead to the end of a properly funded youth service as we know it. He said "The Tories want to push the main responsibility for providing youth services across Essex onto volunteers with fewer and fewer youth officers employed in a supporting role. I consider this move to be a recipe for disaster as I believe volunteers will always need the proper back up and support of experienced youth workers if they are going to try and fill the void left by skilled professionals with many years of service. "I would urge any reside
