Tackle climate change and save money with Community Energy schemes
Tackling climate change can save people money, says Liberal Democrat Councillor David Worsfold, Chair of Brentwood Borough Council’s Clean & Green Committee. One way is through the development of community energy schemes which is why he is backing the launch of a new project for Brentwood residents.
“The climate change deniers in other parties are fond of saying rising to the challenge of slowing climate change will cost people money. They are wrong and community energy schemes are a perfect example of how we can save the planet and save money at the same time, which is why we are backing this exciting initiative”, says Cllr Worsfold.
Brentwood residents can now group together for a chance to access free expert support to lower energy bills, create local renewable energy projects and tackle fuel poverty - thanks to a new partnership between Brentwood Borough Council, Essex County Council and Community Energy Pathways.
It gives people the tools and guidance to start or grow community energy projects. From installing solar panels, improving home energy efficiency, or helping neighbours struggling with heating costs, support is available to help turn your ideas into real impact.
Community Energy Pathways mentors will be on hand to provide expert support at every stage of the journey. Whether helping established groups, like parish councils, community centres, or residents’ associations, scale up their impact or guiding individuals taking their first steps, mentors offer tailored advice and practical solutions. With their expertise, communities are empowered to transform ideas into sustainable actions. They can also advise on how to attract funding for the more ambitious schemes.
Cllr Worsfold says: "Community Energy Pathways is a powerful way for residents to come together and take real action on climate change. We’re proud to support this initiative, which will give communities the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to make a lasting difference, not just for the environment, but for the health and well-being of residents too. If you’re already involved in community energy, have a project idea, or want to get started but don’t know how - this support is for you "
