Resident outcry over flats plan

Residents of St James Road, Rollason Way and surrounding area are now having to deal with plans for another development that will take the flats in the area up to 500.

Former Brentwood West councillor Karen Chilvers says:

"We managed to stop a development of 71 flats in September 2010 on this site, unfortunately then this was followed up by the Tories approving a seven storey development in March 2011 and now there is another application for a six storey retail & office development WITH another 24 flats included. The reason we have so many properties in Rollason Way and St James Road is due to the Tories voting them through block by block.

I have objected to this proposal on the grounds that this is further over-development with insufficient amenity space, there is only 0.8 parking space per property in this area and this will further exacerbate the well-known parking issues in the area, the size of the development that will be 2-3 storeys above the current Brunel House, the tunnel effect this will create in St James Road, the fact that this will be a white elephant in an area already characterised by empty retail and office space, over-crowding in the Warley area, the potential for anti-social behaviour and lack of play facilities on this site, quality of life for local residents and increased traffic movements."

"A number of local residents have also let me know that they have objected to and I will keep local residents updated."
