The Liberal Democrats have selected Edward Sainsbury as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the Brentwood and Ongar constituency.

Edward, a secondary school teacher who lives in Brentwood, was chosen by local party members to stand at the next general election. He brings firsthand experience of working in Education and the daily experience of the pressures facing families, young people, and local services.

Speaking after the selection, Edward said: "I'm honoured to have been chosen by local members to represent the Liberal Democrats in Brentwood and Ongar. As a teacher, I see every day the difference that good public services make to people's lives — and the damage done when they're cut or neglected. I'm looking forward to getting out across the constituency, listening to residents, and making the case for a better future for everyone who lives and works in our community."

Cllr David Kendall, who stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate at the last general election, welcomed Edward’s selection. He said: "I'm delighted that Edward is our new candidate for Brentwood and Ongar. He will be a fantastic local champion for our area, and I look forward to campaigning with him to elect a Liberal Democrat MP in Brentwood & Ongar at the next election."

As we head into the Summer months, Edward’s first action will be to launch a summer survey to hear from residents about their top priorities nationally and locally. As the Labour party rearrange the deckchairs and hope that will be enough, Edward and the wider Lib Dem team are focused on listening carefully to residents and championing the causes and issues that will make the biggest difference to the quality of residents’ lives.
