Lib Dems demand investigation into lack of information

The Liberal Democrat are demanding a review into why financial information was not given to them when requested.

The bold Liberal Democrat motion for an hour's free parking, offset by introducing evening charges, was thrown out and ridiculed by Cllr McKinlay and her colleagues last week for being uncosted. However, the Liberal Democrats were told by officers that, on the basis of the figures that were available, this would be a viable alternative suggestion that would offset the cost.

Cllr David Kendall has now asked for a formal investigation as to why figures that came to light at the meeting were not made available to the main opposition party.

Cllr Kendall said:

"I asked for detailed information regarding the parking income by band from the officers prior to putting in our motion but I was told it was not available. It seems that some members of the ruling group have been been given important information on parking and opposition members like myself have not.

"We are taking this situation very seriously and have demanded a full investigation at the council to see why this important information was not given to us prior to the meeting.

"However, even Conservative councillors did not have the same figures and quoted different numbers at the meeting. There would have been nothing to stop the administration considering this course of action as well as their barmy scheme to spend £100,000 to give residents a 20p discount."
