Councillor Kendall meets with residents over Hartswood Road concerns

3 Oct 2025

Councillor David Kendall, who previously represented the County Council Division of Brentwood South for many years, met with residents along with local campaigner Arthur Leathley, following a recent serious road traffic accident in Brentwood.

Both Councillor Kendall and Arthur Leathley had a productive meeting with residents in Mount Crescent, Warley, over the weekend to discuss the recent accident on Hartswood Road, which is the subject of an ongoing police investigation.

Councillor Kendall provided an overview of the actions he took in the past with Essex Highways when he was the County Councillor for the area, and discussed what can be done going forward.

Residents have organised a petition with over 900 signatures, raising their concerns. Meanwhile, all three Warley councillors and County Councillor Barry Aspinell have also spoken out about local road safety issues.

Councillor Kendall said: “We will do all we can to get the road safety measures that are needed”.

Residents were also concerned that the sitting County Councillor, Andy Wiles, may be unable to fulfil his County Council duties due to ongoing health issues and suggested that he should consider stepping down, having returned to his duties after a long leave of absence due to ill health.

Subsequently, following Councillor Kendall’s prompt action, police have monitored speeding in the area following a request by the Community Safety Partnership chair, Councillor Ben Rigby (Hutton East)

Our thoughts remain with those affected by this incident.
