Brentwood Liberal Democrats call for referendum

5 Sep 2007

Cllr David Kendall, leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Brentwood Borough council, has asked for the following motion to be put forward at the special council meeting on 11th September 2007:

"The Liberal Democrat group on Brentwood Borough Council calls upon the members of this council to instruct the Chief Executive to arrange a referendum immediately, giving local residents the opportunity to have their say on the new joint partnership arrangement with Essex County Council to deliver local services and have one Chief Executive running both authorities".

Cllr Kendall said:

"We firmly believe that the people of Brentwood should have their say in this matter and believe a referendum is the only fair way to do so".
