Boundary Commission agrees with Brentwood Liberal Democrats

The Boundary Commission has decided to keep the Brentwood wards of 'Warley', and 'Herongate, Ingrave & West Horndon', within the 'Brentwood and Ongar' parliamentary constituency.

There were proposals to move the wards in to a new constituency, based around 'Basildon and Thurrock', but these have been rejected.

A Liberal Democrat Campaign led by Councillor David Kendall, organised petitions in both wards that attracted over 800 signatures, and gained many letters of support from displeased residents.

David Kendall made a presentation on behalf of the Wards' residents at the Commission's Hearing in Chelmsford; in which he "highlighted community links: 'the reason why both wards want to stay in the Brentwood and Ongar constituency, is that they have strong links with Brentwood, built up over hundreds of years. There is a real sense of community and identity with Brentwood, and they are concerned that it will be lost if they are transferred in to another constituency.'"

In the Boundary Commissions report, it highlighted the petitions and letters as an important factor in making their decision. The report also said, the Liberal Democrats were the only political party to put forward revised constituency proposals for the whole of Essex.

On hearing the news, Cllr David Kendall said, "I would like to thank all the residents who signed our petitions, and sent in letters in support of our campaign. This is a victory for keeping our local community together, and it just goes to show that people power can make a difference".
